After Waha had the pleasure of meeting this beautiful young lady, her mother and eventually their entire whanau at their local marae in Waiuku; our experienced team wasted no time in choreographing a contemporary version of the Poi dance for Kahurangi’s talent component of the Miss World competition. By combining our kete of skills with Kahurangi’s natural abilities; Waha utilised just one Saturday to teach this proud rangatahi a dance using both (short and long Poi) to the sounds of Poi E (made famous by the late Dalvanius Prime and the Patea Maori club). What was funny that although Kahurangi only had two weeks to learn, practice and then perform The Poi dance to thousands of viewers across the world; all she was worried about was her stomach. Big wraps to Alistar Toto (AKA DJ Ali) for remixing the song within minutes for her to accurately learn and position her feet, body and mind to correctly portray this art of POI dancing..
